Other ways to sign a PDF

  1. A

macOS Preview. Open the PDF → click the markup toolbar → Signature → Create Signature. Works well for one-off documents.

  2. B

Adobe Acrobat Reader (free). Fill & Sign tool lets you draw or type a signature. The free version supports signing but not advanced form filling.

  3. C

Dedicated e-signature services. DocuSign, HelloSign, or Adobe Sign for legally certified signatures with audit trails. These are paid services but required for contracts where certified e-signature compliance matters.

Common questions

Is a drawn PDF signature legally valid?
In most jurisdictions, an electronic signature is legally valid when both parties agree to use them. For routine documents — employment forms, rental agreements, consent forms — a drawn signature is generally accepted. For high-stakes contracts requiring certified e-signatures (like eIDAS-compliant documents in the EU), use a dedicated e-signature service.
Does the PDF file get uploaded when I sign it?
No. EmergePDF's Fill PDF tool is entirely client-side. Your file never leaves your browser — the signature is placed and the PDF is generated locally on your device.
Can I sign a PDF on iPhone or Android?
Yes. The tool works on mobile browsers. Drawing a signature is easiest with a stylus, but a fingertip works too.
Can I reuse my signature on multiple pages?
After drawing your signature once per session, you can place it on as many pages as you need without redrawing it.
How do I sign a PDF without printing it?
Use EmergePDF's Fill PDF tool. Draw your signature on the signature pad, place it on the page, and download the signed PDF. No printing needed.
